Floor Scale, 1991
This is an installation in which the entire floor gallery is covered with bathroom scales, randomly organized in a grid of light blue, pink, yellow, white, black and brown colors. It is meant both to be seen and to be walked on. The installation makes conscious reference to the minimalist tradition of repetitive modular units in systematic arrangements, the abolition of pedestals and the activation of the floor. It also draws on the history of the ready-made, feminist art, pattern painting and patchwork.
